Azure, a chevron disjointed and embattled Gris, edged Argent, between in chief the badge formerly worn by the 23d Infantry Proper (a Greek cross of White enamel edged Gold, in the center the number "23" in Gold numerals surrounded by a Blue garter) and a lion rampant Or, armed and langued Gules.
Crest
That for the regiments and separate battalions of the New York Army National Guard: From a wreath Argent and Azure, the full rigged ship "Half Moon" all Proper.

Shield
The service of the former organization, then the 106th Infantry, is indicated by the blue shield. The broken chevron embattled, represents the Hindenburg Line which this regiment assisted in breaking. The white cross was the regimental insignia used and worn by the 23d Infantry subsequent to the Civil War. The lion represents service in Belgium during the Ypres-Lys Offensive, 1918.
Crest
The crest is that of the New York Army National Guard.
The coat of arms was originally approved for the 106th Infantry Regiment on 21 June 1924. It was redesignated for the 186th Field Artillery Regiment on 29 November 1940. It was amended to change the history on 14 March 1941. It was further amended to change the blazon of the shield on 6 September 1941. It was redesignated for the 186th Field Artillery Battalion on 9 September 1943. The insignia was redesignated for the 106th Regiment with description and symbolism revised on 2 April 1997. The coat of arms was amended to correct the blazon of the shield on 17 November 2004.
